Sharing Equally

In maths we have been learning about sharing equally.  Today we used pretend pizza bases to help us learn how to share equally into halves and in quarters.  We made pizza toppings with  play dough.  We then shared these toppings equally in halves and in quarters.  We discovered that if you can skip count it sometimes helps to work out how many toppings in each section of the pizza quicker.

Hedgehog Fun

In our literacy group we are reading and investigating about food!  How to make food, different types of food even  buying food.  Today we read a book about making a hedgehog out of food.  We used skewers and pushed marsh mellows, grapes and pineapple onto them.  We poked the skewers into half an orange.  We used raisins for eyes as we didn't have cloves.  Autumn's dad showed her what cloves look like.

"They smelt funny" Autumn said.

Thank you for sharing your hedgehogs with
Te Kakano.  They were very yummy!

Writing Workshop

Romeo came to a workshop today to work on his writing goal. He is learning how to record the sounds he can hear in order. We looked at some pictures of three letter words. We needed to carefully sound out each of the letters and write them down. We had a lot of fun stretching out the words and listening for the sounds we could hear. Here Romeo is using his alphabet card to help him identify the vowel sounds. Great learning Romeo!

The Cat Sentence

Today in our writing workshop, we focused on our goal of recording all the sounds we can hear. Romeo chose a wonderful illustration from the 'Seed Idea' box. He decided on a sentence to write and stretched out each word to hear the sounds. He used his alphabet card to help him write them down. Fantastic work Romeo, you are listening very carefully to those sounds.

Romeo has picked his new writing goal.  That is a great choice Romeo.  You will have to listen to all the sounds you can hear in the word and write the letters down.  That is very tricky but we know you can do it!

Building A Castle

Easy Blog Photo
"The army is inside the castle. We have water and a bridge to get over the water. "

Romeo used a variety of resouces in our classroom to make his castle.  After looking at pictures of castles from books he discovered some castles had a moat, water surrounding the castle. Romeo decided to use a blanket for the water.  Can you see the boats on the water?  They even have oars.

Our Houses

Easy Blog Photo

On our Friday Surprise Day we have been looking at a variety of houses and what makes them similiar and what makes them different. Our buddy and I made a house out of playdough.  We didn't peek at our buddies house while we created them but when we finished we compared our houses.
"Our houses are different because Romeo's house has a tunnel and Argam and Brayden's doesn't. Brayden's house has a door and so does Romeos and that is same.   All our houses have walls and that is the same.

Beach Day

Frankley School spent the day at Nga Motu Beach. In the morning we played in the sand and made sand castles.

Romeo helped make towers of sand from a big container. Then they had turns jumping and breaking the sand tower.

"I am making a big castle with my friend. We stomped it down. It was fun."

After lunch, Te Kakano went swimming. Romeo had a wonderful time splashing in the waves.

"I went swimming and the waves tipped me over."
